1990 HSV VN GTS V6

This 1990 VN GTS V6 is one of the HSV models produced specifically for the New Zealand market, with only 510 built.

When I purchased the car, it had already received fresh paint and the 3.8-litre V6 engine was running well, but there were still plenty of smaller jobs needed to bring the rest of the car up to standard.

Inside, a number of broken plastics needed replacing along with the hood lining. Rust was also found around the windscreen area, so this was repaired before it had the chance to become a more serious problem.

Mechanically, the engine itself was running well, although the water pump had become noisy and needed to be replaced.

Once those repairs and finishing touches were completed, the car was considerably tidier and better preserved — keeping another of these New Zealand-only HSV Commodores on the road.
